Heritage map launched by embassies in Thailand to promote European-Thai culture
October 2014
A heritage map marking 65 sites in Thailand has been published by nine European embassies in a joint effort to promote Europe-Thai cultural dialogue and exchange.
Produced and promoted by the embassies of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and the UK, the aim of the initiative is to promote the centuries-long relationship between Europe and Thailand.
The heritage map marks the locations of palaces designed by both Italian and German architects, churches established by the French and Portuguese, trading posts left by Danish and Dutch businessmen, bridges designed by British and Belgians and on-display military uniforms designed by the Polish.
The map is split up into six zones, with each listing European-linked heritage sites such as the Chakri Maha Prasat inside the Grand Palace in Bangkok and the Santa Cruz Church, also in Bangkok.
The free map is available at 21 tourist locations in the Bangkok and Ayutthaya area and is also obtainable from the nine embassies.
