Antarctic Explorer Pass: Let the Adventure Begin!
August 2014
In celebration of 'Ice Station Antarctica' – the new exhibition attracting crowds to Dundee Science Centre this Summer - two of Scotland's leading visitor attractions have come together to offer visitors an exciting voyage of Antarctic exploration.
The family exhibition, which has transformed Dundee Science Centre into an amazing Antarctic exploration, is making its first public outing in the UK since its presence in London's Natural History Museum.
To complement the experiences of today's polar explorers at Ice Station Antarctica, Discovery Point – which is just a short walk from Dundee Science Centre - transports visitors back to the 'Heroic Age of Exploration' to discover how adventurous pioneers faced conditions in Antarctica over a century ago – without the luxury of modern technology!
Antarctica is the coldest, windiest and most remote continent on this planet. While terrifying, it is also beautiful. There is no doubt that it takes a brave and tough person to live and work out here. In this exhibition, visitors will brave a variety of Antarctic challenges, from coping in sub-zero temperatures and testing out a replica base station, to riding a snowmobile. As well as exploring the skills it takes to work in and preserve this frozen wilderness, a series of mini-environments will help visitors to learn about and explore this unique continent.
Through video footage, an amazing cold room to replicate the extremes of Antarctica and authentic and life-saving Antarctic clothing, the exhibition brings the region to life – from its wildlife, living and working conditions and scientific research taking place there, to its sheer, breath-taking beauty.
Ice Station Antarctica was developed by the Natural History Museum in partnership with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS).
Dundee Science Centre and Discovery Point have teamed up to bring visitors the Antarctic adventure of a lifetime. The Antarctic Explorer Pass allows entry to both venues – with over 20% saving on cost. The pass can be purchased at either venue and will be stamped at each destination.
